The Cintra Spirit Awards 2011 stay in Europe

The first edition of the Cintra Spirit Awards saw a total 128 unsolicited applications from 20 work centers in 6 different countries. The gala was attended by Íñigo Meirás, CEO of Ferrovial, and Jaime Aguirre de Cárcer, Human Resources Director at Ferrovial, who were joined by nearly 130 professionals at the event.

The ceremony began with the presentation of the award for Best Business Achievement. The jury honored the teams from Autopistas Madrid Sur and Madrid Levante for the implementation of their Plan to Reduce Recurring Costs, based on team training and the internalization of services, with a forecast of 60 million euros in savings for both highways. The trophy was picked by the heads of the departments of both concessions, Gabriel Valtueña y Rufino del Río, managers of AP-36 and R4, respectively.

The category of Most Innovative Initiative recognized the work of the Autopistas de Portugal team for having renegotiated contracts in Portugal and for creating VialivreOuazad Soraya, Chief Legal Officer, and Marco Cabrera, CFO of Cintra Portugal, picked up the award, accompanied by the Director of Cintra in Portugal, Vítor Santos.

There were three finalists for the Cintra Spirit AwardMike Lowrey, Maintenance Manager for Indiana Toll Road and Director of Operations at the Chicago Skyway, for his exceptional commitment and charisma in the area of team management; Dave Schuller, Director of Operations at the M3 in Ireland, for his outstanding performance in all projects and... Spyros Dapsis, Director of Operations, and Georgios Sinos, Head of Tolls in Nea Odos, Greece, who were the eventual winners of the Cintra Spirit Award 2011. Their merits? Their commitment to the company and their skill at managing extreme situations, protecting both employees and users during the 200 attacks suffered by toll stations in Greece.

Enrique Díaz-Rato acknowledged the "difficulties" faced by the jury in choosing the winners from among so many nominees with proven track records, and he encouraged all attendees to continue working with enthusiasm in 2012.
